The Fight Is Over: Stay At Home Mum VS Working Dad

Ever found yourself in an argument (that you are trying to win) about who has it harder – your husband who is in a high-stress job or yourself, at home with the kids?

I smirk at him sometimes as he gratefully leaves the house when they are being especially whingey….see honey, I have it the hardest. He dips his head to concede then comes home stressed and stiff and it takes him forever to relax.

For us young, professional mothers, who have had careers and have University degrees it can be hard to admit that we are happy.

It can be hard to admit that we wouldn’t have it any other way.

It can be hard to admit that seeing these little people, in all their glory (good and bad) is the most rewarding and amazing experience we will ever have.

These are the days we are going to look back on and yearn for.

Last week I decided to concede and wind up this fight.

He wins.

I am extraordinarily happy and lucky.

Though the days might be long and the pay is dismal, this is the best job I have ever had.

This is the happiest I have ever been.

I love my life.

I love my children.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this post. Do you fight with your hubby about this issue? Do you agree with me? They can win and we get to be happy?

  1. My kids are all grown up now but yes we used to have similar conversations! The main thing I used to get jealous of was when my husband went away on work trips and got to stay in a hotel room, get dinner cooked for him and most of all – get a whole night of undisturbed sleep!
